O ne day. One race. All that matters. The 2024 UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships from Andorra was nothing short of spectacular with what may be the tightest racing in rainbow-stripes-chasing history. The Elite Men's Top 5 were seperated by less than half a second. Barely more than a blink to cram in five of the fastest bike riders on earth. The Elite women's medals were separated by just 1.2 seconds to kick off the morning, too. Jack Rice shares his shots from an unforgettable day of speed, carnage, heartbreak and celebration.
Loris Vergier, completely focused on the rainbow stripes. There's a lot of talk (even from Loris himself) about Loic "giving" the win to Loris. Loic's crash was unfortunate and if he stayed up, he would have won, but Loic didn't stay upright. Loris did. And he went the fastest in the process. Well done, LV! Watching as Loic is on track and on two wheels, considerably ahead at the last split. Then Loic hit the deck and Loris earned a World Champs victory by .148 seconds. Loris just looks like a World Champ when he rides, doesn't he? Vali Holl going gold for the third year in a row. Three minutes early she didn't know if she'd win it or bin it. She won it. Not scared to get loose, the risks paid off and the reward is rainbow stripes. Vali won by just .52 seconds. The margin means nothing, the stripes mean everything. Two World Cups to go and plenty of momentum on Vali's side going into Loudenvielle. Vali just looks like a World Champ when she rides, doesn't she? What could have been?
Myriam Nicole, silver medal by half a second. She's on form and will take her experience to Loudenvielle for redemption. Tahnee and Myriam watching Vali from the hotseat. 3rd place for Tahnee Seagrave by only 1.2 seconds. The pace of Elite Women's racing is blistering with fractions of a second determining results and potentially careers. .148 seconds. .148 seconds. One more time. .148 seconds. Literal inches from silver to gold. This time Benoit Coulanges will have to settle for silver. .169 seconds. .169 seconds. Finn's face says it all. Just .169 seconds from a win and all the way back to bronze.
.283 seconds. .283 seconds. Just .283 seconds off the win and into 4th place. Danny Hart. #mindblownbutnotreally .457 seconds. .457 seconds. Not even half a second off the win and all the way down in 5th place. Amaury Pierron gonna be coming for it in Loudenvielle. Angel Suarez Anna Newkirk Austin Dooley Blenki. Sheesh. The steeze. Charlie Hatton Dante Silva Dylan Maples Gracey Hemstreet THE GOAT. Lisa Baumann Luca Shaw Martin Maes Monika Hrastnik Reece Wilson Ronan Dunne Ryan Pinkerton Bodhan Avrashchenko #allHailWyn
